2018 March For Life March - Ottawa

The annual March for Life rally in Ottawa hit a literal roadblock during their March as pro-choice activists met them head-on at the intersections of Queen and Slater Sts. in Ottawa Thursday, May 10, 2018.

It was pretty amazing to see a small group of activists turn a large Pro-Life rally around. It was democracy in action.

The right to rally for a cause versus the right to confront that cause met an impasse and something had to give.

As the Pro-Life marchers backtracked, the Pro-Choice group tried to head them off at another intersection as members of the Ottawa Police force tried to stay one step in front.

I’ve covered this rally before and while there is always dissent to the the Pro-Life rally, it’s always been on the sidelines.

This was the first time I’ve seen it go head-to-head.

I’ve been out of daily news for just over a year now but I still get pumped up for a good rally. I guess you can take the man out of the newsroom but you can’t take the newsroom out of the man.

Young and female on Parliament Hill

Marie-Danielle Smith is a talented political writer in the National Post’s Ottawa office on the Hill.

And while she’s most at home getting the inside story on MPs and political affairs, she took time in the wake of recent sexual harassment scandals to offer her perspective on what it’s like to be young and female on Parliament Hill.

I encourage you to read her full piece here: http://nationalpost.com/news/politics/young-and-female-on-parliament-hill-a-post-reporter-reveals-what-its-really-like-for-women-who-work-there
